The Gunners took a big step forward in their push for a Premier League top-four spot by beating Brentford 2-1 on Saturday.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has outlined his three-point plan to help his side claim a top-four spot in the Premier League.

Despite Christian Norgaard’s injury-time goal for Brentford, Arsenal emerged as 2-1 winners at the Emirates on Saturday after goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

The victory moved Arteta’s side to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United – who have played two more matches – in the Premier League table at the time of writing.

What’s the plan now?

Speaking in a post-match press conference, however, Arteta played down the gap. The Spaniard intends to focus on keeping his players fit, maintaining their momentum, and raising his squad’s level to ensure a Champions League berth.

“The way I see it is now we have 15 games to go and we know, more or less, the amount of points that are going to be necessary in that fight and we’re still really, really far,” said Arteta.

“So what we have to do is focus on the next match, don’t lose any height and this changes very quickly and will have a lot of turnarounds, I’m sure about that, you see it every week and we have to maintain everybody fit, that’s going to be really important because we are a really short squad at the moment.

The Gunners boss added: “Maintain everybody fit, maintain everybody with the right belief, and the standards have to raise even more because we have to play better to win more matches.”

Arsenal return to action on Thursday at home to Wolves in the Premier League.
