Over the past few days, Sergio Aguero has emerged as the latest name linked to Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has dropped a comment on those links.
The latest transfer talk at the moment is speculation about where Sergio Aguero will end up this summer.
After a successful 10 years at City, the Argentine will be making an exit from the club this summer. City are more than pleased with the front man but are equally happy to move on from him.
Make no mistake at all, Sergio Aguero is a man in high demand and a number of clubs will definitely circle around for his signature.
At the moment, the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and PSG have been linked with the32-year-old. Interestingly, a certain north London club in Arsenal have shown interest in the City star as well.
Just recently, Paul Merson claimed Arsenal would serve as a ‘good’ destination for Aguero. Indeed, the player’s relationship with Mikel Arteta while at Manchester City could be an advantage.
However, the issue of Aguero moving to Arsenal has sparked a debate among Gunners around. While some feel he could still do the job at the Emirates, another set feel it won’t make sense given the player’s age and recent injury struggles.
Mikel Arteta has now commented on Arsenal’s link to the Argentine forward.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Liverpool game on Saturday, Arteta was asked if he would be ‘picking up the phone to Aguero.
“No, no,” he said. “We will see what happens with him in the future.”
Arteta did wax lyrical about the frontman though.
He added: “First of all anybody that has been close to Sergio would say the same thing. I think he’s probably been one of the main three faces that has lifted that project.
“You need some leadership, you need some quality, you need players to create moments to start to build a project like they did. Sergio is probably the biggest face on that project. It’s not only the way he plays, his charisma, the way he plays, he’s loved by everybody at that club.
“It’s sad to see someone leaving like him. What he’s done he’ll be up there in history .Sergio has unique quality to see spaces that nobody else can see and to score goals in a really easy way. I’m sure he will find the right next chapter for him.”
