The one-time Premier League winner gave his views on the ongoing battle between Arsenal and Man City.

Manchester City are still the favorites to win the Premier League despite falling five points behind Arsenal, according to Michael Owen.

A shock 2-1 home defeat to Brentford at the weekend not only ended City’s 16-match winning streak at the Etihad, but caused Pep Guardiola’s side to slip five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, who beat Wolves 2-0, for the World Cup break.

However, while acknowledging Arsenal as the ‘real deal’, Owen still views City as the team to beat.

“They’re certainly sitting pretty at the top, aren’t they? said the former striker, who won the league title with Manchester United in 2010/11, on Premier League productions.

“A lot of people are thinking Arsenal are the real deal now and I’m one of them. It’s crept up on us, really. They have been steadily improving over the last few years, but there’s been a massive improvement this season.

“I still think that Manchester City are the best team, I still think that they are the favorites to win the title. But that defeat to Brentford has all of a sudden given a few teams that might have thought they were out of it a little gee up, maybe.”

City return to action on December 22 for a Round of 16 home clash against Liverpool in the EFL Cup. Arsenal, meanwhile, will take on West Ham in the Premier League four days later.
