The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker gave his score prediction for the upcoming Premier League clash at Anfield.
Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to secure an easy win over Manchester United by a 2-0 scoreline.
The long-time foes will face off for the first time this season on Sunday at Anfield. United enter the contest in bad shape, having lost three of their last four games without scoring a goal. They also suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Liverpool last season, at their lowest point.
With this in mind, Liverpool are the clear favorites to win again, and Owen suspects some of the United players would be ‘relieved’ to lose by just two goals.
“My concern with Manchester United is that they’ll go to Anfield and lose 2-0, then a few players will be relieved that it wasn’t a 5-0 embarrassment!” the 44-year-old said to BoyleSports.
“If I were them, I would pick a way of playing, stick to it, and then hope to get better.
“I’d say 2-0 to Liverpool. It’ll be a reasonably comfortable win. Look at how the two teams are playing at the moment!”
Man Utd should take a leaf out of Spurs’ book
Despite the possibility of another hammering, Owen has urged his old team to be bold. He pointed out Tottenham as an example when they went to Manchester City and held Pep Guardiola’s side to a 3-3 draw earlier this season.
“Anfield can be a stadium where you can take a real beating, and Man United have felt that in the past!” Owen added.
“Instead of going there with fear and defending the entire game, they should look at how Spurs played against Man City. They had a real plan and arrived at the Etihad with no fear. They could have easily lost 6-1, but that’s the only way you improve!
“Once you have a blueprint, then you can amend it from there.
