The Fenerbahce captain presented one of his childhood idols with a jersey before the club’s final Europa League match.
Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to express how honored he felt at meeting Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha.
The former midfielder, who had a memorable two-year spell at Fenerbahce between 1996-98, visited his old club on Thursday to watch a Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt in Istanbul.
Prior to kick-off, Ozil presented Okocha with the team’s latest jersey in front of the applauding home supporters before posting a message to his idol on Twitter the next day.

Unfortunately for Fenerbahce, Okocha’s presence wasn’t enough to stir the team to victory. The hosts had to settle for a 1-1 draw to finish Group D in third place. Therefore, the Yellow Canaries haven’t progressed to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Nevertheless, the chance to meet Okocha is one that will leave a lasting impression on Ozil. The German midfielder revealed to Goal last January that he idolized the Nigerian icon as a child during the star’s time at Fenerbahce.
“Among the players who played in Fenerbahce in the past, I liked Jay-Jay Okocha the most,” he said.
