During Fenerbahce’s Europa League match against Royal Antwerp, Mesut Ozil showed his frustration at being substituted.

Mesut Ozil gave a very public display of his anger towards his latest substitution by some nearby kicking water bottles and throwing his shirt off as he left the pitch.

In a 2-2 Europa League draw between Fenerbahce and Royal Antwerp, Ozil came off in the 66th-minute for Dimitrios Pelkas. His substitution came only three minutes after Pieter Gerkens equalized for the Belgian visitors to deny Fenerbahce a first win in Group D in Turkey.

What did Fenerbahce have to say?

In 11 appearances across all competitions this season, Ozil has only played the full 90 minutes of a match once.

Fenerbahce boss Vitor Pereira has carefully managed the 33-year-old and brought him off after failing to make a significant impact, although he refused to criticize the midfielder.

“We needed more intensity and some fresh blood,” said Pereira as quoted by Goal. “Mesut did well today, he can do well on the ball but today we had difficulty in keeping possession. For sure I cannot know what would happen if we did not bring him off.”

Fenerbahce are in third place in Group D with two points from three Europa League games.

The Yellow Canaries return to action on Sunday for a Super Lig match against Alanyaspor at home.
