According to a report, we have Lionel Messi’s reaction right after getting a red card against Athletic Bilbao during Sunday’s Supercup.

Last Sunday, we got to see an image from Lionel Messi against Athletic Bilbao we never thought we would see. The Barcelona captain was frustrated for losing another final and responded with a direct aggression towards one of his rivals. In the replay, we got to see Messi knocking Villalibre down to the floor with a direct punch to the back of the head. This became Leo’s first-ever direct red card since he started his professional career at FC Barcelona.

As such, it likely made him feel terrible after getting sent-off. Deportes Cuatro reports on the moments right after getting this red card from Messi and how he reacted with his teammates. As it was expected, the captain was extremely apologetic with everybody and accepted his gross mistake. All the players understood and accepted his apology, but there are still consequences from his actions.

Leo might get a two-match ban.

As per La Liga’s rulebook, it is written that an aggression of this caliber can get Messi up to 4 matches without playing as punishment. Depending on how violent his aggression was, the ban can vary from four to two games of suspension. We will get more information on the Spanish Football Federation’s decision over the next week.

If he gets punished, these matches will affect Messi’s La Liga and Copa del Rey participation. Initially, the captain could surely miss the upcoming Copa del Rey match against Cornella. Also, he can miss Barcelona’s trip to Elche in La Liga. Should he get a four-match ban, Leo could also miss the games against Athletic Club and Real Betis.
