Koke spoke about Atletico de Madrid’s chances of signing Lionel Messi and how he would go about convincing the player to join their ranks.
Lionel Messi has been the center of attention in the last few weeks. This time, it wasn’t due to his professional achievements. As the January transfer window approaches, the Argentinian’s future is looking more and more uncertain.
This morning, it was Koke’s turn to add to the buzz. Atleti’s captain was asked whether signing the former Ballon D’Or winner was a real possibility or simply a utopic scenario.
“It’s difficult. I think that Leo has practically made his whole career at Barcelona and well, it will be hard for him to leave. If he does, he has to make a decision on where he wants to play in the future so, why not Atletico de Madrid?” said Koke.
“A lot of times when talking with friends we laugh a lot and ask: How would you convince Messi to come to Atletico de Madrid? It’s difficult because Atletico can’t afford the salary he makes at Barcelona.”
Suarez could help seal the deal.
However unlikely the transfer may seem, Koke believes Atletico has a secret weapon in Luis Suarez. Additionally, the Colchoneros’ recent form may play as another force of attraction for Argentina’s captain.
“At the end of the day, us footballers are hungry to win. It’s football, we have a great squad. The players we have, it’s spectacular. Hopefully this can be our Champions League year.”
