Brazilian legend Rivaldo believes PSG’s performance against Barcelona may have convinced Lionel Messi to move to France.

Barcelona were thrashed by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League this Tuesday. Therefore, Leo Messi is likely to consider abandoning the sinking ship while there’s still time. As the Argentinian’s contract reaches its end, Paris Saint-Germain is looking like his next destination.

In fact, former Barcelona star Rivaldo feels the exact same way. The retired footballer believes this is the end of an era for Messi in Spain and that Luis Suarez’s transfer was the tipping point for the captain.

“This may well have been Lionel Messi’s last match for Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League,” he said. “And based on the quality PSG showed last night, I’m sure he might be thinking about joining them.

“I want Messi to stay at Barcelona but I understand why he’d want to leave at the moment when the club is not guaranteeing him good chances of fighting for important titles regularly.

“He can’t keep taking responsibility for the team on his own. Last summer, he saw Luis Suárez leave in an incomprehensible transfer that has made Atletico Madrid stronger. I believe he will leave the club at the end of the season.”

Barcelona will face PSG in the UCL’s second leg in March in what could very well be Messi’s last Champions League match with a Barca shirt.
