Conflicting opinions continue to exist on the subject of the hierarchy for the two titans of football.

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is the latest to offer his view on the never-ending Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate.

Ronaldo and Messi, despite both having reached the autumn of their career, continue to outshine other players at the biggest stages.

The 36-year-old Portuguese notched up five goals and an assist to clinch the Golden Boot at Euro 2020 while the 34-year-old Argentine was awarded the Golden Boot as well as the Golden Ball as he led his team to Copa America glory.

Messi’s heroics make him the leading candidate to secure yet another Ballon d’Or this year, while Ronaldo is also in contention for the prestigious award.

Fans, pundits, journalists, players, and coaches alike have been involved in a debate over the ascendancy of one over the other for well over a decade now.

“For me, it’s always got to be Messi. For me, he’s just on another planet,” Greenwood responded when asked to pick between the two titans during a Man United Q&A.

“Ronaldo is obviously amazing, a physical, great athletic footballer. But to do what Messi does at his size, what he’s done for Barcelona and winning that trophy for Argentina, he is just on another level.”
