The Argentine superstar is spending the final months of his current contract at PSG.

Inter Miami manager Phil Neville hopes the MLS side win the transfer race to sign Lionel Messi next summer.

Messi ended his 21-year spell at Barcelona to arrive at Paris saint Germain as a free agent in August 2021. After a difficult debut campaign, the World Cup winner has reached his best form at Parc des Prince this season.

The Parisians are eager to extend Messi’s contract for at least another season. However, a number of suitors, from Barcelona to Al Hilal and Inter Miami, are closely following the situation.

Neville hopes his side can bring another football legend to the MLS.

“I think this would be probably the biggest signing in history,” he told the Athletic.

“I can’t think of another star of that magnitude to come from a major footballing country to this place. This is maybe similar [to Beckham’s arrival], but maybe even bigger.

“I think you’re talking about one of the greatest footballers of all time. When you talk about Miami, we have to be in for players like that, you know?”

According to widespread reports in French media, PSG have already started their negotiations with Messi’s representatives. However, the two parties are still far from reaching an agreement.
