Lionel Messi has explained the reasons why he made an attack on Barcelona on social media after they sold Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid.

Over the past few weeks, Lionel Messi has made his frustrations at the Barcelona hierarchy known to the public.

His first came after he was denied an exit from the club over the summer and was ‘forced’ to stay put at the Camp Nou for one more season at least.

Once again, Messi was left displeased with the running of the club and this time it was with Luis Suarez.

The Barca captain said Suarez had been “thrown out” despite being “one of the most important players in history“.

Messi has now opened up on those words and admits he was led by his emotions to do so.

He told Spanish news outlet Sport: “I said what I felt in what was a tough moment. I understand people may have thought I should have shut up or let it go, as I did on many other occasions, but a lot of things hurt me in the last few weeks and it was my way of expressing that.”

While this season may be his last at the club, Messi says he will give his best for Barcelona regardless.

He added: “Whoever knows me knows that I am not capable of playing any way other than always to win, and giving everything on the pitch. It was like that throughout my career and that is not going to change. Today my commitment to this shirt and this badge is total, it is still intact.”
