Argentina legend Hernan Crespo says Lionel Messi would have handled the contract situation properly if he had a professional by his side.
Crespo believes Messi could have avoided his public spat with Barcelona if he had a different agent from his father.
Jorge holds the dual role as father and agent of the Barcelona captain.
Messi already expressed his desire to leave the club and came close to getting his wish.
It took Jorge, his father, to visit the Barca training centre in a bid to settle things out with the Barcelona hierarchy. However, none of those meetings were ever fruitful.
After a ‘long-lasting’ saga of about 10 days, Messi decided to stay put at Barcelona.
Crespo played alongside the Barca man in Argentina colors and says he could have gotten better advice from a professional.
“Here again, with this whole situation, the issue is that … with all due to respect to Jorge Messi , it seems to me that in these circumstances you need a professional by your side,” Crespo told TyC Sports.
“It’s not the same thing to talk an agent, that is, someone professional, as your father … the agent is not going to take into account the family issue and so on.
“You need to be a professional in these cases.”
Crespo added: “I do not want to detract from the father, but he does not have a back in terms of others.”
“Renewing Messi in Barcelona does not require great stress. I do not know how many times he sat down to talk about a conflicting contract, because there you see the professional . Faced with this magnitude, he needed professionals.

Messi will stay put at Barcelona for one more season before talk of his future is up in the air again.
