The FC Barcelona icon has left the door open for a return to Camp Nou and revealed his dream role despite only recently joining PSG.

Barcelona is a club that remains close to Lionel Messi’s heart and one that he would ‘love’ to serve again in the future.

The 34-year-old hopes to become a technical secretary once his illustrious playing career ends. He doesn’t know if that job will be at Camp Nou or somewhere else, but a return to the club he called home for over two decades is an appealing prospect.

Asked by Catalan outfit Sport if he would return to Barcelona, Messi replied: “Yes. I always said that I would love to be able to help the club.

“I would love to be a technical secretary at some point. I don’t know if it will be at Barcelona or not. Or if it will be elsewhere. If there is a possibility, I would like to contribute again in what I can because it is the club that I love and I would love for it to continue to be good, to continue growing, and to continue being one of the best in the world.”

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner left Barcelona in the summer after the club’s precarious financial situation forced him to abandon talks for a new contract. He joined French club Paris Saint-Germain for free in August instead.

Messi is under contract in Paris until June 2023, although he has an option to extend his stay by another 12 months.
