Messi 3rd, Ronaldo 4th, and no Neymar or Lewandowski, whose top five is this?

Former Manchester United player turned radio pundit Alan Brazil has caused an uproar with his top five in the world in football right now.

We all have our own take on the best footballers in the world as things stand right now. Messi and Ronaldo would always be there or thereabouts.

Given his goal-scoring feat this year Lewandowski would have to be in consideration. Of course, who can forget Neymar who has returned from controversy to lead PSG on all fronts?

It would be hard to justify leaving any of these four out, and certainly not at least one of them being number one.

Messi has single-handedly carried Barcelona. Ronaldo even at 35 is right at the top of his game-breaking goal scoring records at Juventus.

Lewandowski has been a machine and surely would have had his shot at the Ballon d’Or this year had it taken place. While Neymar is perhaps the enigmatic one of the four but has certainly been in fine form.

So when Alan Brazil told Talk Sport’s listeners his top five, half of them never even made the list and the half was in the bottom three.

He said:

“I’ll go De Bruyne 5th and then I’d probably go for Cristiano Ronaldo, to be honest…”

“I’ll go Messi as no.3.”

“At no.2 I’ll go for Van Dijk.”

“He’s the best centre-half in the world. And my number one, Neymar doesn’t get in it, Mbappe is my No.1.”

Fellow oundit Jamie O’Hara was outraged but Brazil was intent.

He added:

“I don’t care, it’s common sense.”
