In a recent interview for ESPN, Memphis Depay responded to the question of whether he regrets joining FC Barcelona or the opposite.
It’s only natural one would think FC Barcelona is a bad idea for a player like Memphis Depay, he just responded to this dilemma. When he arrived from Olympique Lyon, the Dutch forward started the season well but he quickly began suffering from the terrible results. As of right now, the Catalan club has lost three out of the last five matches in all competitions. All games have been against the most complicated clubs, on paper.
It would be normal for a player who has the ambition to win if he regretted coming to the Catalan club. However, Memphis Depay almost felt offended by the question made by an ESPN journalist. The star is getting ready for the Netherlands’ upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Latvia and Gibraltar. One would think he loves coming back to his home country and represent his nation but he also loves FC Barcelona.
Memphis hopes better days come for Barcelona.
During an interview with ESPN, this is what Memphis said: ”How could you ask that? This is Barcelona man. I don’t think you understand how big this club is and what it means for a player if you move to a club like this. I would never regret it. Despite results, I’m really happy at the club. It’s been a difficult time [for the team]. I don’t want to talk about that much, but people are acting like the season is already over. There are so many games to play.
“Everything is still open. But as a player you feel responsible and you take responsibility. You care. Every player takes responsibility at Barca. That’s normal for a club like Barcelona. We know what the situation is right now. We know it’s difficult. [Playing with] young players, a lot of injuries. But I think [it’s a matter of time]. Everybody is panicking and for a club like Barcelona it’s a new situation. They’re used to winning everything with beautiful football. This is a new situation, but I am not worried. I’m sure we will turn things around.”
