Scott McTominay has urged his teammates to avoid letting their recent high standards drop upon their return to Europe in midweek.
After a season of missing out on the action in Europe’s most prestigious club competition, Manchester United made their return to Champions League last week – and they did it with a bang.
The Red Devils were ruthless in front of Paris Saint-Germain, inflicting a 2-1 loss for the French champions.
All three goals in the Group H fixture were scored by players of one team. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet while Anthony Martial also struck one – only in his own net.
Man United had grabbed an away victory, 4-1 against Newcastle United in the Premier League, prior to their success in Paris.
They were unable to make it three on the bounce but they did manage to snatch a point in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea thereupon.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finally look to have gained rhythm after a disappointing start to the season, and Scot McTominay insists the team cannot afford any complacency.
“With a big win on Wednesday, it would be massive for everybody and the confidence that we are getting each week, and match by match, it would be really beneficial for the squad,” he told United Daily.
“There’s no point going away to Paris, when it is a big game and the whole world is watching, and doing really well, and then not playing as well or doing all the right things that got you the win in Paris at home against Leipzig.”
