Kylian Mbappe is not ready to give up on his ambition of winning Europe’s most prestigious club competition with Paris Saint-Germain.

In the 2019/20 season, Paris Saint-Germain got closer than they ever had in their 50-year history in their pursuit of European glory.

PSG’s disappointment was two-fold as they were knocked out by eventual champions Bayern Munich at the Champions League final stage and it was their youth academy product, Kingsley Coman, responsible for their undoing.

Domestic success is almost a given for the French giants, having won all four of Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and Trophee des Champions last season. But it is success at the continental level that has eluded them for so long.

Nevertheless, Kylian Mbappe insists he is determined to bring home the Champions League title.

Mbappe told Telefoot: “Of course I am optimistic that we will win the Champions League. We have to because, if we don’t believe it, no one is going to believe it for us.”

PSG lost Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva this season, two of their most reliable players. Both players quit after letting their contracts run down. Moreover, Eric Choupo-Moting and Thomas Meunier also walked out of the club this summer.

Mbappe believes replacement needs to be made at the Parc des Princes ahead of the 2020/21 season.

“You have to recruit well, you have to buy players,” the forward added. “I hope we will have good recruits and that we can restart the season with the aim of doing better.”
