Emmanuel Petit claims Mbappe is trying too hard to be like Neymar and has urged his countryman to focus on improving his own game.

Mbappe has become ‘Neymarised’ at PSG and should be more focused on creating his own path for success, says Petit.

The Frenchman has no reason to take after Neymar after becoming a global superstar in his own accord.

At 22 years of age, Mbappe already boasts three Ligue 1 titles, a World Cup triumph with France, and a Champions League final appearance to his name.

Having scored 104 times in 142 appearances for PSG, the Frenchman has no doubt been a consistent performer at the club. However, his recent form has been something to worry about.

Mbappe fired yet another blank drawn in a 1-1 stalemate with Saint-Etienne last time out.

New PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted after the game that the youngster needs to ‘improve’.

Petit has echoed similar comments to above and adds that Mbappe should focus on his own game rather than trying so much to be like his teammate, Neymar.

Petit told RMC Sport of Mbappe: “Apart from the problems related to his physique and possibly his mind, I have the impression that he has become entangled in his brain and that he needs to take a step back and regenerate himself.”

“But it happens to all players.”

Petit added: “He has a body expression that doesn’t seem positive to me. I have the feeling that he is ‘Neymarised’, that he wants to do what Neymar does on the pitch when he does not have the qualities of Neymar at all.”

“I also have the impression that his opponents have analysed his main quality, speed. The real quality of this boy is to play on spontaneity and not to take the lead.”
