The young strikers have made a huge impact in the early stages of their careers, leading many people to tout them as Messi & Ronaldo’s successors.
The world of football has been blessed with some truly exceptional players over the years, but none quite like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. These two legends have rewritten the history books. Even PSG’s Kylian Mbappe recognizes their greatness, referring to them as “eternal”.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mbappe spoke about his experience playing with Messi for the past two seasons at PSG and against Ronaldo on the pitch. He described the pair as “truly special”, and it’s easy to see why. Their records are unparalleled in football, and their sheer consistency has been unmatched for over a decade.
“I learned a lot from them, especially with Messi in these two seasons. They wrote the history of football: they are eternal,” the 24-year-old said.
Can Mbappe & Haaland be the next Messi & Ronaldo?
While many have touted his potential rivalry with Haaland, Mbappe is keen to distance himself and the Manchester City star from such comparisons. He recognizes that it’s rare to have two players like Messi and Ronaldo at such levels for so long, and that the era we have lived through has been truly exceptional.
“Things should be read differently,” the 2022/23 Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner added.
“It happens perhaps every fifty years or more to have two players like Messi and Ronaldo at such levels for so long. We lived through an exceptional era and I hope the fans took advantage of it.”
