Kylian Mbappe has hailed Neymar as PSG’s ‘leader’ and dropped a possible hint on his contract renewal for the club.
PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe has hinted he could follow in the footsteps of teammate Neymar. This comes in the wake of the Brazilian agreeing to a new contract with the French giants.
Neymar joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Barcelona in a world-record £198 million deal back in 2017. However, he has since been linked with a return to the Nou Camp on several occasions.
In a blow to Barcelona or any other potential suitor, the Brazilian is believed to have signed a new contract with PSG, pending an official announcement.
Mbappe has similarly been tipped to leave PSG at one point or the other. The likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old.
However, he has hinted he may follow Neymar’s lead in signing a new contract as he spoke about his friendship with superstar teammate Neymar.
“I’ve always thought that great players were made to play together – and that’s clear between us two,” Mbappe told France Football.
“Our roles were established when I arrived in Paris: Neymar is the center of the project and I’m here to help him.”
“[This is] because when I arrived at PSG, I was only an emerging star and I had to prove myself on the pitch.”
Mbappe has scored an impressive 106 goals and added 54 assists in 148 appearances for PSG.
Elsewhere, Neymar has continued his fine form this season, scoring six goals in ten Ligue 1 appearances this term.
And Mbappe believes his teammate is now the ‘best player in the world.’
“Neymar knows how to do everything,” Mbappe added. “He’s the best in the world.”
“When he arrived in Paris, we realized everything he could do. He’s not a player simply for putting on a show and dancing when you’re winning 5-0. He also knows how to do spectacular things at 0-0.”
“I don’t know if everyone is aware, but Neymar understands everything. He has an instinct that makes him know how to do everything straight away.”
