Juan Mata was pleased with Manchester United’s ‘professional’ display as they eased past Luton Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Juan Mata was on the score-sheet as Manchester United strolled past Luton Town 3-0 in the Carabao Cup third-round tie on Tuesday.
Coming into the fixture off the back of a loss to Crystal Palace, there was pressure on the Red Devils to make a good account of themselves.
Juan Mata opened the scoring for United in the 44th minute via a penalty before Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood wrapped up the remainder of goals in the latter stages of the game.
The Spanish midfielder was one of the best players on the pitch for United and spoke on how pleased he was with their performance after the game.
“It’s one of those games where, if you win you’ve done what you had to do, and if you lose it’s a mess,” Mata said as quoted by the United official website.
“We did a professional job today. We didn’t concede a goal and scored three. At times, we played some good football. It’s job done tonight; it was important to win after our first game in the Premier League, which we know wasn’t good enough. Now with this victory we go to Brighton [on Saturday] better.”
In goal, Dean Henderson made his debut for the Red Devils after returning from an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United. The goalkeeper made a big save while United were only 1-0 up. Juan Mata was also sure to praise his teammate for his efforts.
“It was very important because it was 1-0 at that moment,” he added.
“He did a great save and someone else saved the ball on the line and I think we did fine. We attacked and defended goals.”
“To be honest, we have not been training together for too long after a difficult pre-season. Now it’s important to get the rhythm back, to get the confidence and, of course, the confidence comes with results.”
Up next for United and Mata is an away trip to Brighton on Saturday where they will aim to record their first Premier League win of the 2020/21 season.
