The England international’s World Cup chances are in serious danger after a hamstring injury.

Mason Mount hopes his Chelsea and England teammate, Ben Chilwell, can recover in time for the World Cup.

Chilwell limped off the pitch during the stoppage time of Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.

The Chelsea star awaits his test results, but initial assessments show he might miss the World Cup.

“We don’t know how bad it is, but that was tough to watch,” Mount told Chelsea’s official website. “We saw his reaction and that never looks good.

“As soon as you feel something and to not even think about the ball, it’s tough. We know what’s coming up, hopefully it’s not too bad and he can be back as soon as possible because we need him as well.”

Chilwell’s injury only worsens England’s defensive crisis ahead of the Qatar tournament. Both Kyle Walker and Reece James are fighting against time to complete their recovery ahead of the tournament.

England have decided to go straight into the tournament instead of playing a friendly match during their week-long preparation window before the games.

Let’s see if Gareth Southgate would have Chilwell at his disposal when the Three Lions face Iran on November 21.
