The Frenchman stepped onto the pitch for the first time in over four months in the Red Devils’ final pre-season friendly.
Anthony Martial’s performance in Manchester United’s big win over Everton was “better than what you fear” for someone returning from a long-term injury, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer picked out a strong starting XI against Everton, allowing Martial to lead the line.
Although the 25-year-old forward did show a lack of match fitness, and expectedly so considering he last made an appearance back in March, he did put in a decent shift.
Martial was forced to sit out a significant portion of the 2020-21 season for United while also missed  France’s Euro 2020 campaign due to a knee injury he suffered World Cup qualifying duty.
“Anthony has had a bad spell with injuries, of course these were his first 45 minutes,” the club’s official website quotes Solskjaer.
“He’s been training well with us but as players who’ve been out for a while, they need some more sharpness, need some more work.
“He tried to do the right thing; it didn’t come off all the time, but it’s better than what you fear sometimes when he’s been injured for five months – since March.”
