PSG star Marquinhos says his side are fired up for revenge after they were paired in the same Champions League group against Manchester United.

The Champions League is back and last season’s finalist PSG are out for glory once again, says Marquinhos.

However, they must go through a potentially difficult group stage first. On paper, the French Champions are favorites to top their group but who knows if some shocks lie in the wait.

Marquinhos and his PSG side will battle it out against Manchester United, RB Leipzig, and Istanbul Basaksehir in Group H of the Champions League.

Les Parisiens recently eased past Leipzig by a 3-0 scoreline in the semi-finals of last season’s edition.

PSG have a more painful memory with Manchester United. In the 2018/19 season, the French giants blew a 2-0 aggregate lead and lost to the Red Devils 3-1 in their second encounter. The English side eventually qualified on away goals.

Marquinhos was on the pitch for both ties and has claimed himself and his teammates have a motivation for ‘revenge’ after the latest draw.

He told RMC Sport following the draw: “These are teams that we faced not so long ago.

“They are very good teams. It’s not an easy group. It will take good things to pass.

“A spirit of revenge against Man United? Everyone has a way of separating. A lot has happened since our elimination from Manchester two years ago.”

PSG have their eye on the prize once again but Marquinhos says they won’t underestimate any side.

“But if taking it as a rematch can motivate us to play a good game, then that’s okay.

“There is a feeling of revenge. We want to show everyone to fight again for this Champions League. But, this group of the first round is very strong. If we miss out on a game, we can be eliminated.

“It will be necessary to be attentive. It will be necessary to prepare all the matches like the finals. Error is prohibited. Everyone dreams of winning this Champions League.”
