On the day he received the FWA’s Tribute Award, Marcus Rashford revealed one of the biggest regrets of his professional career as a footballer.

Marcus Rashford is only 23 years old but he is already talking about a regret in his young professional career as a footballer. You might wonder what could possibly not happen for such a talented player anymore? That’s easy, being coached by the greatest manager in football history. Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and Rashford got handed his debut a couple of years later.

Despite not getting a chance to share time inside the club, the Scotsman remains in close contact with Marcus and the two of them developed a beautiful friendship. Sir Alex feels immensely proud of the humanitarian work Rashford has done during this global pandemic. But the star player still regrets not playing under such a legendary manager. As he received the FWA’s Tribute Award for his fight against child poverty, Rashford revealed his regret.

Marcus wish he was coached by Sir Alex.

In a statement picked up by the Daily Mail, Rashford said: “For me [hearing from Ferguson] was an unbelievable experience and I think for me that is probably the only regret I have ever had in my career, never having the chance to play under Sir Alex. It is something which is probably never going to happen now but to be on the phone with him and just have 10 or 15 minutes conversation with him was amazing and I am pleased he was aware of the situation and he wanted to help as well, so it was brilliant.

“He has always, from the beginning really, backed me with what I am doing. Probably when other people in sports were telling me not to do it and just focus on football, he said if I believed in that, and I believe it is the right thing to do, then he is behind it. Those words from him are an amazing feeling to hear that.”
