As part of the Marca Awards, the Spanish publication decided to hand Karim Benzema the highest honor of the whole ceremony.
Marca just delivered the highest honor they can give to Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid striker who won La Liga last season. Over the last decade, Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi always won the Alfredo Di Stefano trophy without any opposition. But with the Portuguese forward in Italy and Messi failing to live up to the standards.
Benzema has been recognized as the best player of the 2019-20 season for helping Real Madrid win the domestic competition. Karim was presented with the award and they offered him a chance to express his feelings after getting such a massive honor. Despite not winning the Pichichi trophy, Benzema still got to enjoy the highest honor.
Benzema is thrilled with this award.
“It means a lot,” Benzema said on Marca after receiving the trophy. “I feel proud and very happy. It’s the reward for my work at this club since 2009 and, as I say, it makes me very satisfied, without doubt. I’ve been at Real Madrid for many years and I always work to keep helping the team. Messi and Ronaldo are something else. They’ve won lots of individual awards and, for me, it’s an honour to win it ahead of these two players.”
“I make an effort in each training session thinking about each game,” the striker added. “My idea is to show every day that I can play for this club that, for me, has always been the best in the world. There are lots [of possible winners]. For example, Sergio Ramos, who had a great season. I don’t look at players from other clubs; always my teammates.”
