Diego Maradona turns 60 today and has named which footballing present he would love to see become a reality.
Maradona needs no introduction in world football. The Argentine icon is without a doubt one of the most illustrious names to ever grace the sport.
More specifically, ‘El Pibe de Oro’ has his name in esteemed history among the Napoli faithful.
Led by Maradona, Napoli won their first-ever Serie A title in the 1986–87 season. He was 26 at the time.
Fast forward to date and the Argentine legend is now 60 years old. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Maradona says he would like to see Napoli win the Scudetto as a present.
“Nothing for me. I would like this murderous pandemic to go away,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport.
“I would like him to leave everyone in peace, especially those countries, those people and those children so poor that they cannot even defend themselves.”
“I wish that here in Argentina as in so many, too many, other parts of the world the viruses of hunger and lack of work that devour the dignity of people can also be defeated.”
“And then, since I really can not talk about football, I would like my Gimnasia, next to return to the pitch, can win the title after more than ninety years.
“And if it is true that there is never two without three, I would like another Scudetto for Napoli soon. I follow them and I like the team.”
After five games in the Serie A this term, Napoli find themselves in second position with 11 points.
