Liverpool players were reportedly planning a ‘celebration’ to congratulate the Senegal star after the Egypt win.

Sadio Mane scored a game-winning penalty for Senegal when they defeated Egypt to secure World Cup qualification last week. It was the first time Mane faced his Liverpool teammate, Mohamed Salah, since the Lions’ victory in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February.

Another win for Mane and his teammates left Salah frustrated as he, once again, failed to lead the Pharaohs to victory in a major battle.

According to Mirror, Liverpool players had planned a celebration to recognize Mane’s achievement. However, the Senegal star has reportedly told them to cancel the ceremony out of respect for Salah.

In an interview before his side’s 2-0 win over Watford, Klopp reacted to rumours of a rift between the two African stars.

“No doubt about it they are not only close, they are well educated. They are good boys, they are good humans.

“I really thought Sadio did particularly well with it to be honest. And I am sure that Mo appreciates that as well. Even if it is your brother, then imagine he is playing for the other team and you have to play a final and one wins and the other loses. That is not a good situation for anyone. But for sure Sadio and Mo would consider themselves as friends, and they handled it well.”

Liverpool will now prepare to face Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday. The Reds will then meet Manchester City in a title-deciding game five days later.
