A substantial slip in standards leaves the Reds 19 points off the top of the table, and their title defense hopes have all but faded.

Sadio Mane firmly admits the Premier League is out of reach for Liverpool this season in spite of stating that his team still carries a “never give up” attitude.

Mane conceded the title while acknowledging Manchester City’s sensational form, suggesting the league leaders are unlikely to loosen their grip on the top spot.

Liverpool’s form in the league is in direct contract to that of Man City’s. The former have lost all of their last four games and have managed just two wins in their 11 matches. The latter, on the other hand, have 13 straight victories.

A mountainous 20-point difference now exists between the two teams, with the Sky Blues 10 points clear at the summit while sixth-placed Reds are struggling to get into top-four.

With back-to-back titles now a distant dream, Mane suggests they have shifted their focus to the Champions League.

“First of all, before the end of the season I think, not only me, but every single player in the squad has targets. It’s the same for the club,” the Senegalese said in an interview with ESPN Brazil.

“Our target from the beginning was [winning] the Champions League, the Premier League and also cup games. And now, I can say it’s over for the Premier League … it’s too much.

“In our head, our self-belief, it’s always ‘never give up’, and we won’t give up, but for sure, Manchester [City] are a good team and they’re flying.”
