The Senegalese winger becomes the latest cause of concern for the Reds, having been left out of their league outing on the weekend.

Sadio Mane has suffered a “minor muscle injury”, according to the official Liverpool club website.

Mane has been crucial as ever for the defending champions this season, scoring 10 goals and registering five assists from 24 starts across all competitions so far.

The 28-year-old forward was absent from Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet for the Premier League match against West Ham United which raised fear over the player’s fitness.

Klopp confirmed ahead of the match that he has been handed another injury headache, revealing the Senegal international picked up a knock as he starred in the 3-1 win over Tottenham.

“It happened in the game against Tottenham. It’s nothing too serious but it’s serious enough for him not to be involved today,” the Reds boss told Sky Sports.

“It’s so something like this, with Sadio, doesn’t happen again.

Klopp added, explaining Roberto Firmino has been dropped from the starting XI as a precaution: “We have less than 72 hours before we play. We have to try to make sure the boys recover as good as possible. That’s it. Bobby’s fine.”
