The Red Devils will be aiming to get one foot in the final so as to increase their chances of a first European success since 2016-17.

Manchester United welcome AS Roma at Old Trafford on Thursday night for the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.

Man United cruised to a 4-0 win over Granada to reach the last-four stage of the competition whereas Roma beat Ajax in what was a tightly-contested fixture to progress past the quarter-finals.

Both sides will be determined to get a positive result in order to make their case to make it to the ultimate stage and eventual glory.

Manchester United vs Roma Form

The Red Devils have plenty of reasons to be confident going into the match. They have avoided defeat in their previous 17 home games in the Europa League and are unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions.

An uneventful dour goalless draw against Leeds United in the Premier League put an end to their five-game winning streak.

However, the English heavyweights have been on a semi-final curse lately, having failed to get past the last-four stage in their last four attempts in any competition.

The She-Wolf, meanwhile, are going through a rough patch of form as they are without a win in their previous four games across all competitions.

They suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cagliari last time out which saw they slip down to seventh in the Serie A standings.

Edin Dzeko’s going on his longest domestic drought in over a decade has not helped either, with the striker having been unable to get on the scoresheet in any of his last 12 Serie A outings.

Manchester United vs Roma Head-to-head

Man Utd have a better head-to-head record, with four wins in six encounters. 2008 was the last time the two sides met, with Roma suffering a narrow 1-0 loss.

Manchester United vs Roma Team News

Pedro will miss the match due to a thigh problem, Nicolo Zaniolo hasn’t yet gained full fitness after suffering ACL injury in September, while Riccardo Calafiori could also be unavailable for the visitors.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Scott McTominay will all sit out the game due to suspension while Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain on the sidelines.
