The Red Devils are keen to add a new striker to their ranks for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign.

As the January transfer window unfolds, Manchester United finds itself in dire need of bolstering its attacking options. With manager Erik ten Hag at the helm, the Red Devils have identified four strikers to potentially reinforce their frontline.

Let’s delve into the profiles of these strikers and assess their potential impact at Old Trafford.

Jonathan David

Jonathan David, currently plying his trade at Lille, emerges as a prime target for Manchester United. Having joined Lille in 2020, David has showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 68 goals in 160 games across various competitions. The 23-year-old Canadian international is on the radar of several clubs, with a rumoured price tag of £34 million.

David’s consistency in finding the back of the net, coupled with his youth and experience in domestic and European competitions, makes him an attractive prospect. However, competition for his signature is fierce, with Aston Villa and AC Milan expressing interest. Lille, aware of David’s contract expiration in 18 months, might find themselves in a bidding war to retain his services.

Serhou Guirassy

Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has been in scintillating form, amassing 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games and 19 goals in 16 games across all competitions. The 27-year-old’s versatility is evident as he excels in various tactical systems, contributing both as a goal-scorer and in build-up play. The enticing aspect for United is Guirassy’s affordable price tag of around £15 million.

Guirassy’s ability to adapt to different playing styles makes him a valuable asset. While Stuttgart would prefer to keep him amidst their push for a Champions League spot, the financial appeal might force their hand. Manchester United could secure a dynamic striker at a relatively reasonable cost.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, a veteran forward with experience at Bayern Munich and PSG, is another name on Ten Hag’s list. The 34-year-old has proven his worth as a reliable backup, contributing 38 goals in 107 appearances for Bayern. With limited starts this season, Choupo-Moting is reportedly eager to move to Old Trafford for more playing time.

While Choupo-Moting is out of contract at the end of the season, Manchester United’s interest revolves around a potential loan deal until the veteran becomes a free agent. His experience and versatility could provide valuable depth to the squad during a crucial period.

Lois Openda

RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, a 23-year-old Belgian striker, has attracted attention with his goal-scoring prowess, notching 11 goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season. However, his recent move to Leipzig from Lens involved a significant fee, potentially reaching £40 million, making him the club’s record signing.

Despite Openda’s impressive performances, his release clause of around £70 million doesn’t come into play until next year, making him a financially unattainable target for Manchester United at the moment.
