The record 20-time English champions have just one major obstacle left to sign Frenkie de Jong.
Manchester United have reached a full agreement with FC Barcelona to sign midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano. The Italian journalist claims the two clubs have agreed on a package deal worth €85 million after further talks. As part of the agreement, United will pay Barca an initial fee of €75 million. They may pay a further €10 million in add-ons later on.
This development will come as a boost for Erik ten Hag. The United manager worked with De Jong at Ajax. While he has refused to speak about his interest publicly, he is reportedly keen on a reunion with the midfielder at Old Trafford.

Still one major obstacle to overcome
Agreeing on a deal with Barcelona was one thing, now United must convince De Jong to join them.
The 25-year-old has made it no secret he prefers to stay at Barcelona and he has accepted no personal terms to kick-start a move to the Premier League as of today.
“I feel good at Barcelona. I prefer to stay with Barca,” De Jong told ESPN Netherlands at the end of May when quizzed on the United links.
The Netherlands international joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for a transfer fee of €85 million. He has since made 139 appearances for the La Liga club, supplying 13 goals and 17 assists.
He has played under four managers in Catalonia and has won the Copa del Rey so far.
