The Man Utd star’s post to praise his teammate Andre Onana caused controversy last month.
Football Association (FA) will take no disciplinary action against Alejandro Garnacho over his gorilla emoji Instagram post.
Andre Onana kept Manchester United in the Champions League by making a last-minute penalty save against Copenhagen on October 24. After the game, Garnacho shared a picture of Onana with a caption consisting of two gorilla emojis.
FA started their investigation a day after the post but were not convinced to punish the young winger.
“We are satisfied with the explanation and context it provides, so we will not be issuing disciplinary proceedings. We have reminded the player of his responsibilities around social media posts and the use of emojis,” FA’s statement reads.
Garnacho faced backlash on social media for his post but insisted that he wasn’t offended by it.
“People cannot choose what I should be offended by,” the Cameroon goalkeeper wrote. “I know exactly what [Garnacho] meant: power and strength. This matter should go no further.”
Garnacho has made a total of 14 appearances for the Red Devils this season, including three starts in the Premier League. The Argentine international will be available for selection when the Red Devils host Luton Town on Saturday. Before that, however, Erik ten Hag’s men will travel to Copenhagen for a crucial UCL game on Wednesday.
