The Red Devils’ unimpressive defensive performances have convinced them to add a new centre-back to their ranks.

Manchester United are reportedly considering a January move for Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for the former Barcelona star in the summer transfer window. However, after the collapse of Harry Maguire’s expected move to West Ham, they decided against completing the transfer.

Since then, Tottenham have emerged as the front-runners in bringing Todibo to the Premier League. However, it seems that United still haven’t given up on signing the young defender.

According to Sky Germany, Todibo is one of Manchester United’s defensive targets for the upcoming transfer window. However, the player’s desire to secure regular playing time could tempt him to choose Spurs over United.

Maguire’s return to United’s starting lineup has seen him move ahead of Raphael Varane in the pecking order. Todibo will need to compete against both veteran centre-backs to possibly claim his place in Erik ten Hag’s lineup.

Varane is heavily linked with a move away from United next summer. The Frenchman’s potential departure would open up a place for a new centre-back. In addition to Todibo, who is priced at £45m by Nice, United have been actively scouting Benfica’s Antonio Silva this season. However, a move for the Portuguese star is unlikely to materialize this January.
