The 23-year-old forward required medical assistance and was ultimately forced to be replaced in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Manchester United moved closer to Manchester City in the Premier League standings after sealing a comfortable 2-0 victory over their rivals on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead from the spot just two minutes into the match before Luke Shaw doubled their advantage five minutes after the break.

Despite the crucial win, however, the night was not all joyous for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he saw one of his key players, Marcus Rashford, pick up an injury.

Rashford went down as he tried to stop the opponents on a counter. He received some treatment on his left ankle but couldn’t continue and was subbed off for Mason Greenwood at the 73-minute mark.

The England international was limping on his way out of the pitch, giving rise to fear that he could miss several matches.

“I don’t know,” said Solskjaer when asked about Rashford’s injury after the match, via United Zone. “It’s something with his ankle.

“When he sprinted 70 yards to save a goal, it showed the attitude of the boy. I think he went over on his ankle but we need to do a scan, I’ve not had time to speak to the doctor yet.”
