Marcus Rashford is set for a spell on the sidelines after Manchester United confirmed the forward will undergo shoulder surgery.
Manchester United have announced Marcus Rashford will undergo shoulder surgery, meaning he’ll miss the start of the new season.
The England international has struggled with a muscle tear in his left shoulder since November. It’s restricted his movements and caused discomfort. He used pain-killing injections to keep playing but will now take surgery to ensure a full return to fitness.
Rashford, therefore, could be out for around 12 weeks. Depending on when the forward has the surgery, he might not return until October.
“Following consultation between Marcus, the manager, club medical staff, and specialists, Marcus will undergo surgery imminently to resolve his shoulder injury,” read a club statement.
“He will now focus on his rehabilitation in order to return as soon as possible.”
What Premier League games could he miss?
United begin their 2021/22 campaign against Leeds at Old Trafford on August 14. A trip to Southampton awaits seven days later before they meet Wolves at Molineux at the end of August.
With Rashford set to take surgery at either the end of July or the beginning of August, he might not return until mid to late October. By then, United would have played around eight Premier League games.
