The Red Devils’ trip to London didn’t exactly go to plan, but they at least made another spot of club history.

Manchester United have set a new club record of 18 away games in the Premier League without defeat, surpassing the previous tally of 17 set by the 1999 treble-winning team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side collected a hard-fought point against old rivals Arsenal in a goalless draw on Saturday. The result cost them valuable ground in the Premier League title race, but at least brought some consolation.

The point at the Emirates extended United’s unbeaten run on the road to 18 league games. According to Opta, the current squad has now surpassed the club record of 17 away unbeaten league games set by Sir Alex Ferguson’s iconic team from December 1998 to October 1999.

The record-breaking run on their travels began in a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in February 2020. United have since added another 12 victories and five draws to collect 44 points. They’ve also recovered from losing positions seven times to snatch wins during their incredible unbeaten streak.

In response to United’s record, Solskjaer said: “We’ve been consistent.

“We’re traveling, we’re staying together, they prepare well, the mood in the camp is good, in the hotel we’re ready for the games and 18 games? That’s an achievement in itself, so hopefully, we can make it a longer one.”

The Red Devils will now welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Tuesday for their next match. With a three-point deficit to Premier League leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand, victory is necessary.
