Mason Greenwood bagged a brace as Manchester United secured a convincing win against Burnley at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Manchester United made it five Premier League victories in a row for the first time since January 2019 as they claimed a 3-1 win over Burnley at Old Trafford.
Mason Greenwood was the star of the day with a brace to his name. Edinson Cavani added one late on to see the Red Devils move within eight points of leaders Man City.
The first half was rather lacking in quality at both ends, and it was United who took the lead just after the break through Greenwood. The youngster smashed home at the far post from Marcus Rashford’s pass and a clever Bruno Fernandes dummy.
Burnley were level just 114 seconds later. James Tarkowski rose highest from an Ashley Westwood corner to level matters.
Greenwood then got his second, finding the near post as Jack Cork helped with a deflection that saw the ball go all the way in.
Half-time sub Edinson Cavani converted Donny van de Beek’s chance at close range for 3-1 in stoppage time to seal the win for Ole Solskjaer and company.
The result means that United’s gap to rivals City is now eight points. The gap to fifth place is now 12 points.
However, it still remains highly unlikely they can provide a realistic late title challenge to leaders Manchester City with just six games to play.
