The Red Devils cruised past West Ham to reach sixth in the Premier League standings.
Manchester United defeated West Ham 2-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. Alejandro Garnacho scored twice as the Red Devils claimed a promising victory.
What happened?
West Ham’s bright start to the game forced Andre Onana to make a number of saves early on. But the hosts gradually found their feet in the game as the first half went on.
Following a few missed chances, United finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Rasmus Hojlund latched onto a through pass from Casemiro before making it 1-0 with a stunning low shot from the edge of the box.
West Ham failed to make a quick response, only for United to double their lead early in the second period. Only four minutes after the break, a deflected shot from Alejandro Garnacho put the Red Devils ahead 2-0.
The Hammers pushed hard to get back into the game in the final 20 minutes. But it was United who put the victory to bed with another goal in the 84th minute. This time, a precise through ball from Scott McTominay found Garnacho, who completed his brace with a cool finish from inside the box.
The victory sends United to sixth on the EPL standings. Erik ten Hag’s side will face Aston Villa in their next league game on February 11.
