The Red Devils continued their Champions League campaign with another disappointing defeat.

Galatasaray defeated Manchester United 3-2 in their Champions League game on Tuesday. Mauro Icardi’s late goal was enough to seal the Turkish giants’ victory at Old Trafford.

What happened?

United started the game on the front foot, putting pressure on the visitors from early on. Their efforts paid off when Rasmus Hojlund put them ahead with a header in the 17th minute.

The Red Devils’ celebrations, however, were shortlived as Galatasaray came back into the game through Mohammed Wilfried Zaha’s goal only six minutes later.

Alex Meret and Mason Mount found two chances to restore United’s lead before the break. But the hosts had to wait until the 67th minute to score their next goal of the night.

Hojlund charged into Galatasaray’s box after a mistake from Sergio Oliviera in the middle of the pitch. He then made it 2-1 for the hosts with a precise finish to score his third UCL goal in two games for United.

The hosts weren’t able to hold on to their lead as the Turkish side mounted a brilliant comeback. First, Mohammed Kerem Akturkoglu scored the equalizer in the 71st minute with an easy finish inside United’s box.

Casemiro was then dismissed with a second yellow card for his tackle inside the box, but Icardi failed to convert the spot-kick. The Argentine star, however, won the game for the visitors ten minutes later as Davinson Sanchez’s clearing header unexpectedly found him behind United’s backline.

Man Utd vs Galatasaray: Man of the Match

Despite United’s defeat, Hojlund’s performance fully deserves the Man of the Match title. The Norwegian striker made another solid UCL display for United, scoring twice at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have a lot of reasons to be disappointed after the home defeat, but Hojlund’s display isn’t one of them.
