The Red Devils pulled off an extra-time comeback to get back to winning ways.
Manchester United defeated Brentford 2-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Red Devils turned the game around in the extra time to claim the three points at Old Trafford.
What happened?
United struggled to find their feet early on as Brentford created a number of serious chances. The Bees finally scored the opener through Mathias Jensen in the 26th minute. A misplaced pass from Casemiro and Andre Onana’s poor reaction saw Brentford take the lead at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils pushed to get back into the game before the half-time whistle. But their best goalscoring opportunity was missed by Marcus Rashford.
United started the second half on a poor note as Brentford nearly doubled their lead through Jensen ten minutes after the break.
The hosts gradually increased the pressure on Brentford’s backline in the final 15 minutes but had to wait until the 93rd minute to find the back of the net.
Scot McTominay, who had come into the game only six minutes earlier, made it 1-1 with a precise low shot inside the box before the hosts won the game with another goal just four minutes later.
McTominay completed his brace and United’s dramatic comeback by converting Harry Maguire’s assist with a header from close range. The 2-1 victory sends Erik ten Hag’s side to the eighth spot on the EPL table.
