Marcus Rahsford scored a late match-winner as United clinched a narrow win over the Hammers.
Manchester United defeated West Ham in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Red Devils leapfrogged West Ham as they climbed up to fourth place on the table.
Rashford to rescue!
Similar to their previous match against Brentford, United did not find a great start to the game. The Hammers had a few chances to score an early opener.
However, after missing them, David Moyes’ side had to retreat back to their own half as United started to dominate the possession. The Red Devils remained harmless until the half-time whistle, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing their only serious chance of the first half.
Ralf Rangnick’s side started to look dangerous in the second half. However, this also created many chances for the Hammers to score on the counter-attacks.
A few brilliant saves later, it seemed the game was destined to end in a goalless draw. But, Marcus Rashford saved the day for the Red Devils with a last-minute winner. Following a run from Edinson Cavani down the left-hand side, the Uruguayan pulled the ball across goal to Rashford on the far post. The England international then nodded the ball home to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
United took West Ham’s place on the table as they moved up to the fourth spot. After the upcoming international break, the Red Devils will face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on February 4. The Hammers will return to action a day later when they meet Kid’minster.
