Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United entered tonight’s Premier League clash against Wolves in the hope of clinching another win following their victory over Burnley. However, little they know that the visitors were not the easiest of opponents to defeat.
Bruno Lage’s men brought intense firepower to Old Trafford as they only had one intention in their minds. Indeed, the visiting side displayed quite a performance which was reflected in their stats. Wolves had 48 per cent of possession along with a total of 19 shots.
United were just beginning to gain some momentum under Ralf Rangnick avoiding a loss in their last seven games. But, tonight was a totally different story that was about to unfold for them. The visitors completed dominated the local boys and secured the win with Joao Moutinho’s only goal in the 82nd minute.
A delicate cross from Adama Traore was cleared by United but found Moutinho who was waiting for the opportunity to shoot. The Portuguese playmaker calmly controlled the ball and fired a low shot past David De Gea in the goal.
Ronaldo had a few attempts but was unable to help his side take control of the game. In fact, De Gea was completely involved in protecting the goal from the likes of Nelson Semedo, Podence, and Neves during the first half of the match. But could not keep a clean sheet at the end.
The Red Devils seemed lost from the beginning of the game and were punished by Wolves in the last quarter. With this defeat, United now stand in the seventh spot followed by their opponents who are just below them with 28 points in the Premier League table.
