A second-half penalty from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw Arsenal claim their first win over Man United at Old Trafford in 14 years.
On paper, Manchester United came into the game with better form and were expected to brush aside Arsenal.
The Red Devils were full on confidence from their 5-0 thrashing of Leipzig in midweek but the Gunners did not follow the script.
Arsenal were the better side in the first half, but they did not quite do enough to take the lead. Man United had the best chance of the half through Mason Greenwood. The Gunners could have opened the scoring in the early stages when a shot from Willian grazed the United goalpost.
With the game still in a deadlock, Arsenal earned a penalty in the 69th minute after Paul Pogba brought down Hector Bellerin. Aubameyang calmly converted the penalty and that breakthrough proved to be the winner.
United dominated late in the game but Arsenal held on to record a key away victory over their rivals. It is back to winning ways for Mikel Arteta’s side after two consecutive losses in the league.
