Can anyone stop the ruthless Sky Blues? The Wanderers, who beat them both times last season, will take a crack at the herculean task.
Manchester City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad on Tuesday night in the extended Premier League matchday 26.
Initially scheduled to be played in gameweek 26, this fixture, among others, was preponed due to the upcoming FA Cup games.
Too hot to handle lately, Man City have been knocking down everyone who dare stand in their path and are seemingly running away with the league title. Currently, they have a huge 12-point lead at the top of the table and could now further dampen rivals Manchester United‘s title hopes.
In Wolves, however, they face a formidable opponent, having suffered defeats both home and away to them in the previous campaign.
Manchester City vs Wolves Form
The Cityzens go into the match on the back of 20 straight wins across all competitions. If that wasn’t intimidating enough, they are also unbeaten in their last 27 matches with their last defeat coming back in November.
Pep Guardiola’s men have scored 51 goals, conceded a mere seven, and kept 13 clean sheets during their winning run so far.
They have been impressive at home this season, winning 10 of their 13 league games.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, meanwhile, have blown hot and cold all through the campaign and are placed down at 12th in the league standings.
They have scored just 27 goals in their 26 league matches. Having struggled on their travels, they have managed to amass only 15 points from their 13 away games so far.
But the Wanderers have improved in recent weeks and are unbeaten in their previous five league outings, including wins over Arsenal and Leeds United.
They head into Tuesday’s contest off the back of a 1-1 stalemate with Newcastle on Saturday night.
Manchester City vs Wolves Head-to-head
The reverse fixture ended up in the favor of Man City. Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Gabriel Jesus got on the scoresheet to seal a 3-1 win at the Molineux.
The last five meetings, however, are evenly divided with two wins and two losses for each of the two sides.
Manchester City vs Wolves Team News
Nathan Ake, who has missed the last nine matches due to muscular injury, is the only absentee for the hosts.
The visitors, meanwhile, will be without four first-team players. Raul Jimenez is still recovering from the fractured skull he suffered in November. Daniel Podence continues his spell on the sidelines and so do defenders Fernando Marcal and Willy Boly.
