Manchester City are in talks to sign River Plate’s striker Julian Alvarez who has a release clause of around of £15m-£17m.
Manchester City are reportedly considering making a move for River Plate striker Julian Alvarez.
The 21-year-old is contracted to the Argentine club until December 2022, and has a release clause of around £15m-£17m.
City have been interested in Alvarez for a while, and according to Goal, are set to make a move for the youngster this transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been playing all season without a striker following Sergio Aguero’s departure in the summer. The Premier League champions missed out on signing Harry Kane from Tottenham, and the City boss is keen on bolstering his attacking options.
Alvarez has scored 36 goals and contributed 25 assists in 96 appearances for River Plate. He already has five caps for Argentine and has drawn comparisons with City’s record goalscorer, Aguero.
“Playing in Europe is most people’s dream because of those leagues’ quality and what it means to be at those clubs,” Alvarez told Radio La Red in 2020.
“I am taking it easy. Obviously I talk to my agent and my family, but I know I have to stay focused on what I’m doing. Later the time will come, through the work I am doing. On the Playstation, I play with Barcelona or Manchester City.”
