The Citizens are on the verge of adding a new midfielder to their ranks.

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Leeds United over the transfer of Kalvin Phillips.

The Citizens have been considering Phillips as their number one target for midfield recruitment this summer. Following the transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, City stepped up their efforts to bring the 26-year-old to Etihad.

According to The Athletic, Man City will pay a £42m fee, with additional bonuses valuing £3m. The English outlet claims Phillips can finalize his move to Man City as soon as the next week.

The England international has spent his entire career at Elland Roads. After coming through Leeds’ academy ranks, Phillips made his senior debut under Marcelo Bielsa in 2015.

Following Leeds’ return to the Premier League, Phillips became a key player in their midfield, maintaining his form despite the Peacocks’ struggles.

A brilliant Euro 2020 campaign with England established Phillips’ reputation among the best English midfielders. An upcoming move to City will increase the Leeds star’s chances of playing for England in the 2022 World Cup.

Leeds United have already added Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca to their midfield line this summer. However, English sources have claimed they are also considering RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams as Phillips’ replacement at Elland Road.
