The Citizens will have two key players back after their defeat against Leipzig in the Champions League.
RB Leipzig defeated Manchester City 2-1 in their Champions League game on Tuesday. The Citizens were already qualified as group leaders, but the news of two absentees in their squad worried their fans.
Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte missed the trip to Germany as both were out of action with injuries. However, the pair must make their return to the pitch earlier than expected.
According to MEN, Jesus and Laporte were both back in the gym on Wednesday after missing out on the Leipzig game. The pair might even be available for their side’s game against Wolves on Saturday.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola substituted Phil Foden and Nathan Ake during the defeat against Leipzig.
In a post-match interview, the Spanish manager spoke about the pair’s situation.
“Nathan has a problem with his back – we will see tomorrow,” Guardiola said after the game.
“Phil had problems in the beginning of the game with his ankle. He struggled a little bit so he was taken off as a precaution and we put Raheem in his position.”
The Citizens leapfrogged Chelsea on top of the league table as they defeated Watford with a 3-1 result. With the Premier League title race reaching its decisive phase, each injury could cost the team their spot on the table.
Liverpool and Chelsea are only one and two points away from Man City, respectively. Chelsea are also struggling with injury problems themselves, having several key players on the sidelines. Liverpool are doing better in terms of injuries. However, they will lose some of their key players due to this January’s Africa Cup of Nations.
